12-Valve Fire Ring Head Gasket — Standard
Fire ringing is what ends repeat head gasket failure on a high-boost 12-valve. The wire ring bites into a machined groove and seals the cylinder far harder than a conventional gasket can at these pressures.
Gasket Specifications
- Thickness: .070" (1.5 mm)
- Wire: .105", 4.560" O.D.
- Groove: .025"–.026" depth, cut with a .120" radius cutter
Installation Requirements
This is a machined installation, not a drop-in gasket.
-
Head studs are mandatory for proper clamp load
- Head and block must be verified flat
-
Under 800 hp: a groove in either head or block is adequate
-
Over 800 hp: cut grooves in both for maximum sealing
Fitment
1989–1998 Dodge Ram 5.9L Cummins 12-valve engines.
